Economics investigates how to improve our welfare. The Faculty of Economics is seeking to foster individuals who can play leading roles in wide-ranging fields in society on the basis of a spirit of integrity, freedom and cooperation which has been handed down since the establishment of Kobe Higher Commercial School, our predecessor.
Applicants are sought with the following qualities and abilities:
- Students who have the ability to analyze and think about various social phenomena logically and creatively based on their foundations in economics, in addition to their extensive and rich knowedge of liberal arts.

[Required competences: initiative and cooperativeness; interest and motivation] - Students who have English and/or other language skills with the ability to understand different cultures, allowing them to play active roles in the international community.

- Applicants should have acquired the following abilities in high school, etc.:
- Japanese Language: Ability to read and comprehend text and express oneself clearly.
- Geography and History/Civics: Broad and comprehensive knowledge in Geography, History, and Civics. Analytical skills to understand various social phenomena.
- Mathematics: Ability to think logically, express oneself, and develop critical-thinking skills.
- Science: Comprehensive understanding of natural science and ability to think logically.
- Foreign Language: Reading comprehension and communication skills.
Basic Policy for the Selection of Students:
Undergraduate applicants will be selected based on the following characteristics, which are in accordance with the Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy outlined by the Faculty of Economics.
- Applicants’ knowledge and technique; critical thinking, good judgement and expression will be evaluated during the General entrance examination.
- Applicants’ knowledge and technique; critical thinking, good judgement and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation to study at Kobe University will be evaluated in the Recommendation-based entrance examination.
- Applicants’ knowledge and technique; critical thinking, good judgement and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation to study at Kobe University will be evaluated during the Special entrance examination for privately funded international students.
- Applicants’ knowledge and technique; critical thinking, good judgement and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation to study at Kobe University will be evaluated during the Entrance examination for third-year transfer students.
