In the Faculty of Medicine, School of Medicine, the main purpose of education is to train students to become doctors who possess high ethical standards, and advanced knowledge and techniques in each specialized field. We encourage our students to see things from the perspective of a scientist who possesses an unparalleled strong inquiring mind and imagination, inspiring them to want to become researchers of life science and medicine. We believe that it is important for students to have a broad-minded outlook regarding world affairs, and nuture individuals who are capable of becoming international leaders in each relevant area.
Applicants are sought with the following qualities and abilities:
- Those who are interested in life science/medicine and have a strong inquiring mind and a strong will to fulfill their potential,

- Applicants should have acquired the following abilities in high school, etc.:
- Japanese Language: the ability to comprehend text and to express meaning clearly
- Geography and History/Civics: broad comprehensive knowledge; analytical skills to understand various social phenomena
- Mathematics: ability to think and express meaning mathematically; general mathematical ability
- Science: comprehensive understanding of natural sciences; ability to think logically
- Foreign Language: ability to read with understanding, communicate, and express oneself well
Basic Policy for the Selection of Students:
To select students in line with the criteria above, various competences are measured using the screening procedures below, based on the diploma policy and the curriculum policy of the Faculty of Medicine, School of Medicine.
- In the General entrance examination, knowledge and technique; critical thinking; good judgement, and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation are assessed.
- In the Comprehensive entrance examination, knowledge and technique; critical thinking; good judgement and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation” are assessed.
- In the Recommendation-based entrance examination, knowledge and technique; critical thinking; good judgement and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation are assessed.
- In the Special entrance examination for privately funded international students, knowledge and technique; critical thinking; good judgement and expression; initiative and cooperativeness; and interest and motivation are assessed.
