In the Department of Systems Science, we study the basic theories and methodologies for analyzing, designing, constructing, and operating systems of increasing size and complexity. Students work with concepts and functions that are common to a variety of systems, in a logical, scientific, and practical manner, without specializing in a specific engineering field, such as mechanics, electronics, or information engineering. Additionally, students integrate software and hardware engineering, pursue connections between the real world and the information world, and acquire interdisciplinary academic experience in a wide variety of theories and technologies related to system infrastructure.

Research groups

Fundamentals of Systems Science

The Fundamentals of Systems Science provides students with education and research experience in the theoretical basics and methodologies for system analysis, design, construction, and operation.

Innovation of Systems Science

The Innovations of Systems Science group deals with methodologies and techniques related to the realization of systems with near human intelligence, and system theories for intelligent system design.

Applied Robot Science (Collaborative Program: Mitsubishi Electric Corporation)

About the Doctoral Program

The Doctoral Programs in the Graduate School of System Informatics build on the Master’s Programs, aiming to produce individuals who will go on to become researchers, teachers in a higher education research organization, or advanced specialist employees. Our graduates are globally-minded, with the ability to identify and solve issues, and a creativity that enables them to contribute to the creation of new knowledge and value systems.
